As part of my thesis project I art directed a photographic editorial based on Samuel Beckett’s play Waiting for Godot. I also acted as producer securing and styling outfits, location scouting, arranging talent both models and photographic and then I editted the photos and designed the final layout.
Fundamentally Beckett’s magnum opus is about nursing unacted desire. The
titular Godot, a stand in for God never appears and it is never made clear if he is real. A pointed remark in the
20th century that is only more relevant
today. Are Vladimir and Estragon alive
or dead? A question whose answer is
irrelevant. What is relevant is that by
their own machinations that they are
unable to quench that which they thirst for most. A metaphor for the post-modern condition if there ever was one.
